"He is the Mozart of the 19th century, the brightest musician who sees through the contradictions of the time most clearly and reconciles them first," remarked Robert Schumann about the twelve-year-old Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who wrote his Double Concerto for Violin and Piano just two years later. Although Mendelssohn was already playing with pioneering ideas here, the music still clearly breathes the spirit of Viennese Classicism.
It is therefore no surprise that the pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout will perform the double concerto alongside the internationally acclaimed violinist Alina Ibragimova and frame it with two special works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the style of an Italian overture, Mozart's Symphony in E flat major combines abrupt harmonic changes with delicate motifs, while his highly symphonic Piano Concerto in C minor defies the conventions of the time.
