After a traumatic family tragedy, the extremely talented kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) has to leave his home in the Chinese capital Beijing and move to New York City with his mother. There, he finds it difficult to adapt to his new, unfamiliar surroundings and make friends with his classmates. Although Li wants to avoid conflict, he always seems to find himself in difficult situations. When a friend needs his support, he decides to take part in a karate competition. But it soon becomes clear that his skills alone are not enough. Li's kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) therefore asks karate legend Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for support. Together they show Li how he can combine the different fighting styles of the two masters to prepare for a decisive martial arts showdown.
