Kasiva Mutua. DURCHLÜFTEN – 2025 Live Konzerte & DJ Acts im Schlüterhof

Free, outdoors and under palm trees: this summer, the DURCHLÜFTEN music festival will once again transform the Humboldt Forum's large Schlüterhof courtyard into a lively meeting place for sound, rhythm and culture.

Over four weekends, music from all over the world will radiate from the stage: from the raw energy of Mexican cumbia punk to the hypnotic groove of Kenyan dodo blues, from the electrifying syncopation of Congolese soukous to the powerful messages of Afrofuturist big bands. Japanese folk with a Caribbean influence, soulful jazz, hip-hop and the joy and resilience of the Frafra gospel round off this celebration of sound - boundless, multi-perspective and irresistibly danceable!

Kasiva Mutua (Kenya)

Kasiva Mutua may have been inspired by her grandmother's stories when learning to play the drums, but she has developed her own gift for powerful beats. As one of Kenya's leading percussionists and drummers, her expressive playing can tell a story on its own or keep a band in perfect time. Mutua combines traditional African music with modern styles such as jazz, hip-hop, reggae or funk and tours internationally as a percussionist.

As one of the few African women playing percussion on the continent and internationally, she makes music to celebrate her community, tell the stories of her community and empower African women in music. In 2015, Mutua founded the MOTRAMUSIC collective, Kenya's first all-female percussion group, empowering young women through drumming and promoting cohesion. In 2017, she was recognized as a TED Global Fellow and was one of the OkayAfrica 100 Women in 2018. During the pandemic, she also founded "Vibe na Queen", an online platform for female musicians. She continues to advocate for gender equality and the preservation of intangible cultural assets in music.
