Katja Zakotnik: trust & resistance – ein Konzert mit Cello solo im Zeichen der Demokratie

What medium could be better suited than music to reflect both the deep feelings of oppression and danger and the unshakeable trust in humanity and democracy?

With "trust & resistance", cellist Katja Zakotnik creates a wonderful solo concert evening dedicated to ostracized music and composers who have suffered or are suffering under dictatorships. It is a moving tribute to those who transformed their voices into notes despite the most adverse circumstances.

The works - generally tonal and comprehensible - tell of courage, hope and unbroken strength. For example, "Wiegala" by Ilse Weber, who was murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp while looking after a group of children. Or "Chonguri" by Sulkhan Tsintsadze from Georgia, a country in upheaval where protest currently knows no pause. A female composer from India has her say, a female composer from Iran: over three quarters of the music in this concert was written by women. Katja Zakotnik moderates and provides the background.

The sounds in "trust & resistance" offer a unique opportunity to experience history and emotions and ultimately - thanks to the sensitive dramaturgy - to remain full of resilience.

Cellist Katja Zakotnik combines musical excellence with a commitment to diversity and human rights. She studied in Hanover and Cremona, Italy, and honed her skills in the USA. In addition to her artistic career, she studied concert pedagogy and cultural management. Her trademarks are moderated themed concerts and special concert formats.

The anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on January 27 is the occasion for the "Week of Remembrance" series of events in the Hamburg-Nord district. It stands for the joint commemoration of the victims of the Shoah and against forgetting the National Socialist tyranny, but also against today's tendencies towards group-related misanthropy. In 2025, the theme of the week is Unforgotten - artists and cultural workers during the Nazi era.

The concert is a cooperation between the Geschichtswerkstatt Eppendorf and the KUNSTKLINIK as part of the Week of Remembrance 2026
