It all begins with first love. Or with its imminent end. A "Sad Girl Summer", as Kayla Shyx sings - a summer in which nothing is as it seemed.

Her debut album "Sad Girl Summer" was released in May 2025 and was presented live here for the first time at two sold-out release shows in Berlin and Hamburg - a prelude to a descent of change and clearing. Kayla's clear and touching poetry traces highlights from her biography in 17 songs, which focus on love, encounters and growing up.

When you meet Kayla Shyx, you see more than just numbers: She has amassed almost three million followers on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram and had the courage to come out early. Her first video at 14, soon followed by clear feminist statements. A young woman, loud in the patriarchy. Kayla understands: Knowledge brings arguments, arguments bring self-empowerment - and with them she encourages others to stand up for themselves.

As a child of separation, her mother is her hero. A single parent, unperturbed, with little money but lots of support: piano, guitar, musical training. Music is home, expression, security. But when she starts making her own videos, she is fired from the Friedrichstadtpalast. The break brings freedom - and new paths.
