The West London duo Kessoncoda consists of drummer Tom Sunney and keyboardist Filip Sowa. Standing firmly between acoustic tradition and electronica, they are founded on a unique blend of melodic, ostinato piano and unwavering drums. Filip and Tom draw on their diverse musical interests, taking influences from rock, electronica, ambient, breakbeat and soundtracks for films and artists such as Squarepusher, Radiohead and Clark, which they house in their unique studio, a shed at the end of Tom's garden.
Like past and present Gondwana Records labelmates such as GoGo Penguin and Portico Quartet, there's something strongly cinematic about Kessoncoda's music, like a narrative unfolding across different themes and moods, with an ebb and flow of intensity as breathtaking waves of melody burst into life, finally resolving in a wondrous climax.
It is the perfect marriage of complementary personalities that gives Kessoncoda their unique drive: top-heavy drummer Tom with his extraordinary offbeat drumming and thoughtful keyboard man Filip with his ostinato melodiousness. The title Outerstate also reflects their location on the outskirts of West London, as well as their existence away from any scene, having dreamed up their sound world in hermetic seclusion. But now they are ready to go public, and something tells us that Outerstate is just the beginning of something. From Tom's shed to the whole world: Kessoncoda are ready for a global breakthrough! Kessoncoda's debut album Outerstate was released on July 12th on Gondwana Records.
