KHM-HEIMSPIEL zeigt "Ein schöner Ort"

To conclude the film series in the winter semester with debut films by KHM graduates, HEIMSPIEL presents Katharina Huber's multi-award-winning debut film "Ein schöner Ort". The first feature-length film by KHM graduate Katharina Huber celebrated its world premiere at the Locarno 2023 Film Festival. The festival jury in the "Cineasti del presente" competition honored Katharina Huber as the best emerging director of 2023. The "Best Emerging Director Award of the City and Region of Locarno 2023" is endowed with 20,000 Swiss francs. The film's leading actress Clara Schwinning received a Leopard for Best Acting Performance 2023 in this competition.

The feature film debut of director and author Katharina Huber was shot in the Eifel region of NRW. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW backed the production with 100,000 Euros and already supported the development of the screenplay with funding. Katharina Huber produced the film herself (Acker Film), with Clara Schwinning, Céline De Gennaro and Jannik Mioducki in the leading roles. KHM student Carmen Rivadeneira (together with Jesse Mazuch) is responsible for the visual design of the feature film.

Margarita and Güte wonder about the disappearance of the people, the chickens are suspicious, the business opaque and the relationships questionable. At the same time, the radio is sending messages and the world is preparing for the launch of the first spaceship to take people to the edge of the solar system.

Katharina Huber (*1985 in St. Petersburg). Studied at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne from 2006 to 2012 and then at the Royal College of Art in London on a DAAD scholarship. In 2020, she received the German Short Film Award in Gold for her animated film "The Natural Death of the Mouse". She lives and works in Cologne. With her own company "Acker", she produced her first feature-length film "Ein schöner Ort" in 2023, for which she was awarded the prize for best newcomer director at the Locarno Film Festival in 2023 and the Hamburg Producer Award at the Hamburg Film Festival in 2023.

The HEIMSPIEL film series regularly presents debut films by graduates of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) in the KHM auditorium. Afterwards, the directors and image designers present will talk to teachers about the creation, financing and realization of their first feature-length films after graduating from the KHM.
