T.S. Spivet is highly gifted, enthusiastic about science, inventive and a first-class draughtsman - especially of maps. He lives with his family on a remote ranch in Montana and is plagued by feelings of guilt over the death of his brother. Then he receives a call from the famous Smithsonian Institution in Washington: he is to be awarded the prestigious Baird Prize for his invention of a perpetual motion machine. Without telling anyone, he secretly sets off for the distant capital. However, nobody in Washington knows that T.S. Spivet is only ten years old...
