In the summer of 1923, the ailing writer Franz Kafka meets Dora Diamant, a young, lively woman, on the Baltic Sea. What begins as a fleeting encounter turns into a deep love that shapes Kafka's last year. The film, based on the novel by Michael Kumpfmüller, tells this touching story with tender intensity.
Sabin Tambrea as Kafka and Henriette Confurius as Dora fill their roles with authentic passion. In the midst of the golden summer landscape, a romance unfolds that is imbued with hope and melancholy. The gentle camerawork captures Kafka's increasing weakness as well as the strength of their love.
But the shadow of transience lies over their happiness. Kafka fights tuberculosis, Dora does not leave his side. Berlin becomes the setting for their last months together - a time of rebellion against the inevitable.
A quiet, poetic film about love, loss and the consolation of shared moments that stays in the heart for a long time.
Lights out and movie off - once a month, the Kultur: Haus Dacheröden shows selected literary adaptations with a short introduction. If you prefer an intimate, cozy atmosphere to a large cinema hall, this is the place for you. Experience the films by candlelight, with a cool drink and a few snacks. We present adaptations of classic and contemporary literature - from "Tschick" to "Nackt unter Wölfen", from new to old. A short introduction before the screening by the Erfurt filmmaker and curator of the event series Susanne Aßmann gives an overview of the background to the film.
