The film "Kruso", based on Lutz Seiler's award-winning novel, takes us back to the last days of the GDR, to the rough, mystical island of Hiddensee. Here, where the waves crash incessantly against the coast, lost souls meet - dropouts, dreamers and seekers.

At the center of the story is Edgar Bendler, a young man who seeks refuge on the island after a personal stroke of fate. There he meets Kruso, a charismatic philosopher of freedom who has created his own order on Hiddensee - a place for those who want to escape the GDR without swimming across the Baltic Sea. But freedom has its price, and the utopian refuge begins to falter as the political end of the GDR looms.

With atmospheric images and a profound narrative style, the film captures the longing for freedom, the fragility of utopias and the tragedy of unfulfilled dreams. "Kruso" is a tribute to the outsiders of history - a film that moves, makes you think and lingers for a long time.
