In Berlin 1987, the angel Damiel wanders through the city accompanied by his friend Cassiel. Unrecognizable by people, the two listen attentively and patiently to their thoughts and conversations. With growing curiosity, Damiel turns to his protégés and ultimately falls in love. His search for human feelings, for passion, longing, sorrow and pain, grows ever greater and he decides to exchange his immortality for an earthly existence as a human being.
