Trudi lives with her husband Rudi in rural Bavaria. When she learns that Rudi is seriously ill, she keeps the diagnosis to herself and persuades him to take a trip to the Baltic Sea. There she dies unexpectedly. In order to fulfill Trudi's secret dream of being a Butoh dancer, Rudi travels to Japan ...

After "Enlightenment Guaranteed" (2000) and "The Fisherman and His Wife" (2005), this is Doris Dörrie's 3rd film that was partly shot in Japan. Award-winning and highly acclaimed.
