Klanghölzer aus dem Auwald: Workshop für Kinder von 5-10

In the organizer's words:

As part of the Leipzig Environment Days 2025 , we invite you to a very special workshop for children:

Sound wood 🪵 from the alluvial forest

  • What is a riparian forest and how did it form?
  • What role do water and humans play?
  • Which tree species grow in a riparian forest when it is regularly flooded or drier?
  • Which leaves go with which branch and how can you recognize trees by their bark?
  • Which wood sounds best?

After we have answered these questions in a playful way, we will build tonewoods from fallen branches in 4 steps in the practical part:

  • Under guidance, the children saw the branches themselves, depending on their age, and debark them with a children's carving knife.
  • They are then sanded smooth and oiled with organic linseed oil.
  • After drying, we try out the tonewoods rhythmically. 🎶

The children experience that the woods sound different after each step and can give free rein to their creativity.

Dates: June 8, 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Age group: approx. 5-10 years
