Klavierwoche - Gorka Plada

Gorka Plada began playing the piano at the age of five as a self-taught pianist. At the age of 14, he received a full scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School. He is currently studying at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music with Eldar Nebolsin. He has taken part in several festivals and also received important advice from artistic personalities such as András Schiff, Claudio Martinez Mehner and Robert Levin. 2023 he received the Steinway Sponsorship Award in Berlin. In 2025 he will join the Heidelberger Frühling Festivalcampus ensemble as a curator and artist.

Gorka Plada plays a piece by Lili Boulanger, among others. She received her first piano lessons from Gabriel Fauré. In 1913, she was the first woman to win the Prix de Rome for musical composition. She dictated her last work, the ensemble piece Pie Jesu, to her older sister Nadia, the teacher and composer, on her deathbed. The arrangement for piano was made by Gorka Plada herself.

Gorka Plada plays works by Domenico Scarlatti, Isaac Albéniz, Gabriel Fauré, Lili Boulanger, Béla Bartók and Johannes Brahms.
