Germany in the 1930s: The economic crisis has the country firmly in its grip and people are struggling to survive. Among them are Johannes Pinneberg and his wife Emma, known as "Lämmchen". Their modest hope for a better life is suddenly shattered when Johannes loses his job and the young family is plunged into an existential crisis.
Despite the hardships of life, Lämmchen and Pinneberg retain something precious that carries them through the storms: their close bond, a quiet retreat in the midst of adverse circumstances.
Our production of "Little Man, What Now?" addresses current issues that are just as relevant today as they were back then: insecurity in the job market, social tensions, the rise of radical forces and the shift in social power relations. A world in upheaval that holds many challenges and at the same time reminds us of the resilience of the smallest social units.
With puppets by Peter Lutz - already known from our Molière production - and the paper-creative set by Sarah Schwerda, a drama of intense topicality is created. A work that is more thought-provoking and moving today than ever before - here in a modern production that brings Fallada's work into the 21st century.
