Koaxula pres. Deslenguadas

In the organizer's words:

silent green presents

Koaxula is a collaborative sound activation and performance project by Colombian artist Natalia Escobar and Mexican artist Daniela Huerta.

Their first work Deslenguada emerges from an analysis of "The Terrible Mother", which contains the devouring, seductive and poetic aspects emanating from deities associated with the serpent, such as the Aztec Coatlicue and Tlazolteotl or the Embera JEFA.

During the performance of Deslenguadas, whips are used as sound instruments to symbolize the power of the snake gods on the one hand and to question their historical association with systems of oppression on the other. The supersonic effect or sonic boom created by the whip evokes a futuristic quality that metaphorically enables a transcendent dimension beyond time, transforming the deities and stripping them of their historical connotations to give them a new meaning. Using the sonic energy of their whips, which enable the transition between different dimensions, Koaxula penetrate the serpent's mouth, which, protected by rows of dangerous teeth, represents a kind of "vagina dentata". They eventually travel through six levels into the underworld in search of the destructive and transformative powers, the sexual power and the word of the severed tongues of the various female beings who live there. It is a return to the wilderness realm, a reconnection with their dark animalistic side and with the buried power of the Great Uborian Mother.
