With Africa Simply the Best, the International DANCE Festival Munich and the Münchner Kammerspiele are presenting three exciting artistic voices from Togo, Burkina Faso and Mali. The winning productions of the fifth edition of thesolo choreography competition AFRICA SIMPLY THE BEST initiated by Serge Aimé Coulibaly, a contest aimed at young choreographers from all African countries, will be shown. Out of 117 submissions from 19 countries , 14 solo choreographies were selected for the final, which were presented to the audience and an interdisciplinary jury inBobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, in December2023. The award-winning choreographers KoffiKégou Afiadegnigban, Aziz Zoundi and Kadidja Tiemanta won a tour of Africa and Europe for their autobiographically inspired pieces .

Choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly , who comes from Burkina Faso , has been working closely with the Münchner Kammerspiele for several years. In October2024 , his production Balau with members of the Kammerspiele ensemble and dancers from Coulibaly's Brussels-based Faso DanseThéâtre celebrated its premiere in theTherese-Giehse-Halle. The AFRICA SIMPLY THE BEST platform , founded on the initiative of the founder and artistic director of Faso DanseThéâtre, has now become an importantpan-African cultural event afterfive editions, which brings together, celebrates and promotes young artists every two years under the motto"creativity, innovation and originality".
