Kohā-Zeremonie

Guided tour through the permanent exhibition Oceania (Māori focus), short lectures and performance on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 3 to 5 pm.

'Kohā' is an important term in the Māori world. It refers to the offering of a tangible or intangible gift as an expression of gratitude. Led by New Zealand jewelry artists Stevei Houkāmau, Neke Moa and Sofia Tekela-Smith, the Kohā ceremony witnesses the reciprocal connection between culturally significant jewelry and those who make it and those who wear it. Participants can get to know the expanded understanding of (jewelry) objects and contribute to the ceremony with their own small gifts - be it in the form of a spoken contribution, a song or a small souvenir.

The event will be held in English.
