In this queer textile workshop, we will explore how personal memories, lived experiences and collective histories are inscribed in textiles. Together we will approach the "AIDS Memorial Quilt No. 22" from the Netherlands - a piece of lived memory culture - and be inspired by its history. Even though we are oriented towards queer remembrance culture, everyone is welcome.
We work with used fabrics, worn clothing and personal materials. The focus is not on technical perfection or craftsmanship, but on the gesture: conscious mending, mindful repairing, sharing stories. The textile techniques are explained in an introductory way - no previous knowledge is necessary.
Participants are invited to bring their own fabrics that have meaning for them: a T-shirt, a piece of curtain, a shirt that carries a story. Together we will create a space for caring, creative work, remembrance and exchange.
The workshop will be held in German and English and is aimed at people aged 16 and over, regardless of their previous experience. Materials will be provided.
