Kolsimcha began playing at weddings as a duo almost 40 years ago - an obvious choice, as klezmer was originally the wedding and festive music of Eastern European Jews and the name "Kolsimcha" is also taken from a blessing spoken at Jewish weddings. Now together as a quintet, they have long since outgrown the framework of weddings: they have developed their very own style beyond all the usual klezmer clichés - "Contemporary Klezmer". The five musicians combine Eastern European musical tradition with jazz and elements of classical music to create their own unmistakable soundscapes, with which they delight audiences worldwide. Their concerts have already taken them to venerable concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York as well as to renowned music festivals such as the Montreux International Jazz Festival. Now they are presenting their unique musical skills at the Ruhrfestspiele. Fascinating and captivating.
