KOMED 2

Lin Chen
Michael Gees
Curation, moderation and piano

The secret of ability lies in the will. Is that a Chinese proverb? No. But this one is: The highest virtue is to be like water that benefits everyone without expecting anything in return. In any case, both sentences serve Lin Chen as a compass in the ocean of musical possibilities and characterize her art as one of gentle volition. Lin Chen is an extremely versatile multi-percussionist and performer. And a master of sonic philosophy, I might add, having blissfully forgotten myself while listening to her play. She's my partner in this Advent West-Eastern KOnzertMEDitation.

KOMED is a format for the collaborative spontaneous discovery of contemporary music. In the text, in the noise, in the moment, we listen to sounds, put them under the magnifying glass of attention (meditation) and form connections.

For the duration of an hour or so, we undertake to do something together, to remain in relationship and to allow ourselves to be guided by the idea we have recognized together. Every acoustic event counts and contributes to the whole. The unexpected can occur at any time and challenge us to integrate. Ideally, and not so rarely, we discover music that none of us would have thought of on our own. Those present increasingly experience themselves and each other as participants: Without them and their intentional listening, nothing would have sounded. For who would want to bear witness to the present if not those who are present?

"Meet the Artists" after each concert.
