Max Dommers and I first had the pleasure of talking on the phone - quite astonishing. Very few "cold calls" are enjoyable; you hardly ever hang up with the feeling that you can rely on the other person's alertness and sense of humor. But we agreed that we had something to tell each other, even on stage, even though we couldn't really know. By the way: that's improvisation. Knowing nothing - considering everything possible. Nevertheless, by next year we'll have somehow managed to play together. And still step out in front of you as if every note were a miracle.

KOMED is a format for the collaborative spontaneous invention of contemporary music. In the text, in the noise, in the moment, we listen to sounds, put them under the magnifying glass of attention (meditation) and form connections.

For the duration of an hour or so, we undertake to do something together, to remain in relationship and to allow ourselves to be guided by the idea we have recognized together. Every acoustic event counts and contributes to the whole. The unexpected can occur at any time and challenge us to integrate. Ideally, and not so rarely, we discover music that none of us would have thought of on our own. Those present increasingly experience themselves and each other as participants: Without them and their intentional listening, nothing would have been heard. For who would want to bear witness to the present if not those who are present?
