Founded in 2015, Kommas Ensemble is a Cologne-based ensemble of female musicians with an international background, consisting of specialists in contemporary music. One of the ensemble's main goals is to perform the music of composers from Latin America in Germany in order to question post-colonial structures, make marginalized perspectives visible and promote equal cultural exchange.

Throughout its history, the Kommas Ensemble has played at important festivals such as the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona and the Acht Brücken Festival and successfully toured Chile in 2023.

The first program of the 10th anniversary cycle KOMMAS#X1 will take place in March. In this and the following programs, the aim is to present and reinforce what the ensemble has achieved throughout its history and what we understand as its contribution both to the local scene and to the ensemble's areas of influence in Latin America.

Thus, in this first program, we will present two world premieres by Latin American composers: Sofía Scheps (Uruguay) and Antonela Copertari (Argentina), selected following a Call for Scores. The sextet Arpège (1986) by Italian composer Franco Donatoni, which we consider a key work of the 20th century repertoire, will also be performed. Finally, we want to include "Newen" (2021) by Víctor Ortiz (Chile) , which we recorded for the Revolte cycle during the pandemic but have not yet been able to present live in Cologne.

The concert will feature a visual content based on the concept "Dust", which will be designed by artist Paul Pape (DE).
