Commas#RITUAL

15.10.24, 8 pm
Stage - Alte Feuerwache Cologne -Admission free-

.

Kommas#RITUAL is a concert that explores the concept of ritual through three sound worlds. The work "Mēnin" by Francisco C. Goldschmidt, a performance (UA) by Marisol Jiménez and a collective work based on the music of Christian Vásquez Miranda are three perspectives through which the ensemble will develop the program. Texts from the historical novel about Patagonia "The Museum of Dawn" by Galo Ghigliotto will be the inspiration for the dramaturgy of this program and will be performed by an actress.

"...Initially it was assumed that it was a ritual burial or the cremation of a recently killed family group by Indian hunters. However, these assumptions proved to be unfounded as the Selk'nam did not cremate their dead and no other family members were with the child..."

The Kommas Ensemble is a relatively young formation of musicians of international origin based in Cologne. Founded in 2015, the ensemble consists of instrumentalists specializing in contemporary music (graduates of the Ensemble Modern Academy Frankfurt), orchestral musicians from renowned orchestras as well as jazz musicians and outstanding specialists from the free improvisation scene, complemented by composers.

The Kommas Ensemble has already performed at important festivals throughout Germany (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Bielefeld, Essen, Bremen, Munich and Frankfurt), made its international debut at the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona in 2017 and performed at the Acht-Brücken-Festival 2018, WERFT-Festival 2019 in Cologne, FRAKZIONEN-Festival 2020 in Bielefeld and at the Akademie der Schönen Künste in Munich.

Since the ensemble was founded, it has been a particular concern of the ensemble to provide a platform for the latest developments in Latin American new music in Germany. Latin American composers, new artistic positions and socio-political issues of Latin America should be increasingly reflected in the programs.

We want to position ourselves clearly and develop as active participants in a social and cultural change that we consider to be a priority and necessary. At the same time, it is also important for us to engage with key works from the contemporary repertoire, as we believe that this also promotes our artistic development.
