Attributes such as longing, melancholy and wistful are the hallmarks of Portuguese fado, which describes the attitude to life of its inhabitants in beguilingly emotional melodies. The undisputed queen of this musical style is Mariza from Lisbon, who has brought the "Portuguese blues" to the world with unprecedented success in a career spanning more than twenty years. Like almost no other artist, she is able to sing about world-weariness packed into sounds with a magnificent voice and captivating expressiveness. In keeping with the festival motto, the program is all about "Amor", love, and invites the audience to close their eyes, stroll through the streets of the Portuguese capital and listen to the stories that life writes.
