König*in Fußball - Fachtage zu Fußballkultur, Politik & Gesellschaft

In the organizer's words:

The first half of the 2020s was and is characterized by massive global political and social changes. On the one hand, the widespread resurgence of reactionary and autocratic attitudes can be observed, while on the other, there are numerous efforts to achieve greater equality and equal opportunities. These changing global conditions do not stop at the world sport of soccer, which has become more politicized than ever before - a development that is viewed ambivalently as such. Some regret the seemingly new culture of debate that has emerged and ultimately point to the distinction between sport and politics. In contrast, many see the only chance for a successful future for soccer in its transformation and opening up to disadvantaged groups.

Over the course of the two-day conference, experts and guests will exchange ideas, learn more and network in discussions, lectures, readings and workshops on the interplay between soccer, politics and culture. The conference, which is taking place at the same time as the start of the Women's European Championship, aims to address specific problems, but also to highlight constructive efforts. We are interested in the question of how to highlight the positive aspects and potential of the world's most popular sport - together with active players who are already doing just that. And we want to look at where there are problems - together with those who are affected by them and offer suggestions for solutions.

The soccer family will be moving to a rather unfamiliar environment for two days: the venue for the conference is the Z-Bau - Haus für Gegenwartskultur in Nuremberg. The cultural center normally offers an extensive program of concerts, club nights, literature and socioculture. In this way, soccer enters a creative environment of subculture and alternative culture, which will stimulate thought and reflection.
