Konzert Cinema Italia. Luca Zennaro & Michelangelo Scandroglio

In the organizer's words:

The Italian Cultural Institute Cologne presents the concert Cinema Italia with the duo Luca Zennaro & Michelangelo Scandroglio on September 17 at 7 p.m. in its theater hall.

Cinema Italia is the meeting of two promising talents from the European jazz scene, in which an original sound language, contemporary folklore and Italian musical influences merge together. From the terraces of the Chioggia lagoon to the streets of Florence, an intimate, atmospheric ambience is created. Without rhythm instruments and characterized by a common musical identity, the duo achieves new soundscapes when playing together. In addition to original compositions and new interpretations of classics of Italian music - from Puccini to traditional songs from the Maremma - they also perform soundtracks by Ennio Morricone as well as some jazz standards adapted to contemporary music. Cinema Italia forms a bridge between the past and the future: you dream of what was and look ahead to what may come.

Cinema Italia is a project by :

Luca Zennaro - guitar, special effects
Michelangelo Scandroglio - double bass

Guitarist, composer and bandleader Luca Z ennaro (*1997 Chioggia) was runner-up at the international competition Riga Jazz Stage 2017 (Latvia) (with Kurt Rosenwinkel on the jury). He was a finalist in the Massimo Urbani Prize and won a scholarship at Nuoro Jazz and was one of the winners of the Tomorrow's Jazz Prize at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, where he was recognized for the "high level of composition, a group dynamic with dark sounds and for moments of great intensity and lyricism".

Even at a young age, Michelangelo Scandroglio is regarded as a beacon of hope in Italian jazz. He won the Riga International Jazz Bass Competition and was awarded Tomorrow's Jazz by Veneto Jazz as the best up-and-coming talent. In 2019, he won the Conad Jazz Contest at Umbria Jazz and was presented with the first prize by Paolo Fresu. In 2020 he was runner-up at Musica Jazz's Top Jazz for Best Emerging Talent, in 2021 he won the Getxo International Jazz Competition in Bilbao and in 2022 he was the only Italian artist selected for the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
