A countertenor and an accordion - a rare combination that is immediately moving.
In their new duo, Joël Vuik and Lydia Schmidl combine baroque arias, contemporary sounds and chamber music miniatures to create an intense, moving concert experience.
The program "Longing and Desire" revolves around what moves people inwardly - musically exciting, sometimes fragile, sometimes expressive. Works by Purcell, Dowland, Arvo Pärt and Quilter meet tangos, solo works for accordion and unusual arrangements.
Joël Vuik, a celebrated countertenor who has performed at venues including the Elbphilharmonie and Theater Gera, meets the multi-award-winning accordionist Lydia Schmidl, known for her projects with the Lux Nova Duo and performances with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, among others. Together they create sound spaces full of intimacy and surprise - without a grand piano, but with great artistic power.
