"Sounding Objects: Pianos from the exhibition in concert" Lucas Blondeel, historical keyboard instruments, and Antje Becker, moderator
Lucas Blondeel, pianist and specialist for historical keyboard instruments, presents selected objects from the special exhibition together with Antje Becker: an early table piano by Steinway & Sons (1858), the company's so-called "Victory" piano (1943) and a textile piano by Grotrian-Steinweg (1962).
About the exhibition:
People and Pianos. Steinway & Sons | Grotrian-Steinweg The show is dedicated to the history of the two companies. Steinway & Sons, based in New York, is probably the most famous piano manufacturer in the world. It is closely linked to the local region through the vita of individual family members. The exhibition is therefore also a bridge between Braunschweig and the New World, between regional (cultural) history and the great international world of music. The common origins of the companies, the respective careers and the significance of the workshops for the development of keyboard instrument making and musical culture are highlighted. In addition to Heinrich Engelhard, Theodor Steinweg, who will celebrate his 200th birthday in 2025, will receive special attention: in the first decades of their existence, he played a decisive role in shaping the fortunes of the companies.
