Bernard Fichtner - One and Only! Passionately clear and transparent.
At Jazzahead, guitarist, composer and teacher Bernard Fichtner announced the continuation of his project, the album with M:
"THE M-PROJECT - Movin' on" does indeed move on.
Since the release of the album, Bernard Fichtner has been touring the North with his band. He was a guest at the Jazznacht Glücksstadt. The enthusiasm of the audience was so great that another invitation followed immediately.
Bernard Fichtner's band will present new pieces. One of them was released as a single in November under the title "MEANWHILE" - with M.
As with his first album "Points of You", Bernard Fichtner is turning another page in his career as a composer and songwriter. In a seemingly imperceptible paradigm shift, he has composed "odd meters" - brilliant, dancing, lively music that is "MEANWHILE" in its sound world, between traditional and uniform worlds. "MEANWHILE" represents a turning point for the M-Project, a departure from the inside and a turn towards what lives and dances outside.
New to the band is pianist Erek Siebel, while Henning Schiewer (bass) and Moritz Hamm (drums) with bandleader and guitarist Bernard Fichtner stand for continuity.
"MEANWHILE" is the start of a series. Bernard Fichtner has more pieces in the works, one of which will be released at Jazzahead 25.
Bernard Fichtner had his own ideas about his music early on. A fine and precise sense of sound led him to choose the guitar as "his" instrument. Initially self-taught, he knew exactly what he wanted to learn from his teachers. He continued this way of developing music and communicating transparently.
After graduating from high school, he studied in Canada and finally at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, the stronghold of jazz. From there, he experimented and explored various genres and styles such as rock, funk, fusion, soul and rhythm'n blues with his personal "algorithm". He has worked as a musician on musical productions, accompanied musicians such as the Israeli singer Esther Ofarim and composed film scores. Bernard Fichtner loves teaching, sharing music with musicians of all generations and working together with an individual approach. It is therefore not surprising that he also provides insights into his way of making music. He shows how an idea emerges from a collection of short musical phrases, which he continues and expands. He also takes the audience into the world of recording software and uses examples and screenshots to demonstrate how he transforms his ideas into individual tracks and edits them.
As far as his music and his role as a musician and bandleader are concerned, his aim has always been "to develop a singular profile that makes you listen more closely ..." as with his last album Movin' on (Bernard Fichtner's M-Project). And that is what sets him apart. Bernard Fichtner has clear ideas. "I always succeed in creating something unique when the music is given an understandable form," he emphasizes. "On Movin' On, I mainly chose non-complex, symmetrical forms."
Bernard Fichtner always has clear ideas, even when it comes to selecting musicians, which he does very carefully. As a musician, he is said to have "an unpretentious style", whose solos "develop their flow from the stories they tell. They interact with and react to the rhythmic, dynamic and melodic accents set by his fellow musicians."
In short, Bernard Fichtner is "passionately clear and transparent".
