KONZERT // MI 4.6.2025 20H // Experimental Guitars TANID SINTARATANA & MICHAEL FRANK & MICHAEL PETERS

In the organizer's words:

Tanid Sintaratana

is a guitarist, composer and sound engineer. His creative work is primarily based on improvisation. His music draws on various influences such as jazz, punk and folk and integrates traditional instruments from different cultures. This fusion is enhanced by techniques such as live looping, computer music and field recording, expanding the boundaries of sound in a contemporary context.

His outstanding works include the album "RhizomE x Ju Ju", which was created in collaboration with the artist Lolay and was awarded "Best Asian Creative Artist" at the Taiwanese Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA) in 2023. The track "Fragments" from this album was selected for the Ars Electronica Forum Wallis in the Swiss canton of Valais in 2025. Another important project is the EP "Enter The Void", which was created in collaboration with Krupleng and combines jazz, ambient and the traditional southern Thai dance drama "Nora".

Experimental Guitar Evening This concert format for improvised experimental guitar music was launched in 2009 by Cologne guitarists Michael Frank and Michael Peters to present guest guitarists who are friends of theirs, both solo and in collaboration. The guitarist Craig Green from Idaho has taken part in four of these concerts, the Solingen guitarist Markus Wundes in the fifth, and this time the young Thai guitarist Ham Tanid will be a guest in Cologne after one of his works was performed at the Swiss Ars Electronica the week before.

Michael Peters (Kürten)

Since the early seventies, Peters has not only played in punk bands, ambient projects, free music orchestras, rock cover bands, Robert Fripp-influenced guitar craft trios, avant-rock bands and free improv nu-jazz groups, but has also realized a large number of solo projects, including CD releases with ambient music, experimental sound collages, field recordings and algorithmic computer music. His guitar livelooping projects focused on improvisation with the diverse possibilities of an electric guitar connected to the computer. Michael Peters has performed with this type of setup in recent years at concerts in Germany, France, England, Italy, Belgium and the USA

Michael Frank (Cologne)

has been playing guitar since 1971 and founded the band The Absurd in 1984. Since 1997, he has been exploring the possibilities of digital loop pedals in improvisation and composition - as a soloist or in a group context. This results in song structures, dissonant sound fields or spherical glissando surfaces.

He played at the first Livelooping Festival in Cologne in 2008 and performed several times as part of the "Experimental Guitar Evening" series with Michael Peters and Craig Green. In 2017 he took part in the Paris Spring Loops Festival and in 2023 he played at the Y2K23 International Looping Festival in Santa Cruz.
