In electricity, there are two types of charges: stationary and moving. There is presence and flow. Not only metaphorically speaking: tension and release. The crucial question remains, if, how, and when different charges are connected or even short-circuited. And what kinds of oscillations, mutating frequencies, and force fields ensue.
YUKO KASEKI & KRITON BEYER take these physical phenomena and their inherent poetry as a starting point for the collaborative project they present at KOOKOO. Following endeavors in Athens and at Berlin's Wasserspeicher, the two are joining forces again: YUKO KASEKI's unparalleled presence and body control, a practice rooted in Japanese butoh dance, connects with the sound of KRITON BEYER's daxophone and a custom-built light control system, and with a site-specific installation involving piano strings that both performers can play.
They act as mobile nodes within an interdependent system occupying the entirety of Ohm's main room, which is transformed into a mutating stage and an instrument. YUKO KASEKI & KRITON BEYER think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration—phenomena that, as a pioneer in applied electronics once stated, are key to find the secrets of the universe.
The art of creating tension and maintaining it at a high level—perhaps occasionally releasing it—is also crucial to the work of ANNA BUTTER. A sound artist with a background in fine art, she is adept at emitting sonic impulses that have an immediate physical effect. Following her mesmerizing debut appearance at KOOKOO in 2024, ANNA BUTTER returns in May with an expanded DJ setup to bend sounds and circuits alike.
Further currents and connections are provided by KOOKOO resident artists CARLY FISCHER and YUKIHIRO TAGUCHI with their sculptural flyer artwork and on situ installation respectively. And KOOKOO hosts MIEKO SUZUKI & ARA present a most likely electrifying and potentially moving selection of sounds.
