Short film by the lake - Made in Cologne
The program presents works by Cologne filmmakers and artists - diverse, creative and locally rooted.

Several short films, a documentary and two music videos will be shown, which together paint a multifaceted picture of Cologne's art and culture scene. From the tropical hall in Düsseldorf (Nido de Cocodrilo), we travel to various Cologne districts (gone tomorrow here today) via the street in Kalk (Katalinen Kanthoria) to the Cologne Riviera (Wellenreiter). This is followed by an excursion into Italo-pop nostalgia (Pantaloni Rossi), before the program ends with a biting reckoning with the office stooges (Fancy Car, Girlfriend And The Big House). These and other artistic works impressively demonstrate how lively, colorful and diverse the cultural scene in Cologne is - with wit, attitude and a very unique view of the world on our doorstep.

• Gone tomorrow here today
  Cornelius and Matthias Bierer | D 2025 | Documentary 14'
  If you come from Cologne or are often out and about in the city on the Rhine, you might have noticed the work of Pusher Tony. With clear typography in black letters on a white background, the Cologne street artist leaves messages on the walls and facades of buildings that often don't last long. The two filmmakers and brothers met Pusher Tony again and again over two years and accompanied him with their camera.

  Long-term unemployed friends Mike and Alfred are recruited by their old buddy Rasto to sell ice cream on the beach of Rodenkirchen's Riviera. They are supposed to be rivals, but soon the 'invisible hand of the market' brings them together again. This illustrates the famous "ice-cream vendor on the beach" dilemma known from economic theory, which the American economist Harold Hotelling formulated in his 1929 essay on spatial competition.
• Katalinen Kanthoria (The Song of Katalin)

  One winter night, Katalin, newly arrived in Germany, wanders through the streets of Kalk, apparently looking for a room. Unsuccessful, she seeks refuge in ethereal oases of intimacy to bring warmth to her life on the margins of society.

  The tropical hall at Düsseldorf Zoo is transformed by an encounter between a woman and the crocodile keeper. While watching and being watched by crocodiles, they talk about family memories with reptiles in Colombia, ghosts and the history of the zoo.

Short film by the lake - Best of German Short Film Award

The German Short Film Award is the most prestigious and most highly endowed award for short films in Germany. Every year, the nominated and award-winning films go on a tour through the country: the Kurz.Film.Tour. From this tour, we have put together a special program for the summer of Cologne: two feature films that have won the Gold Short Film Award as well as two impressive nominations from the feature and animated film categories. An evening full of surprising perspectives, great emotions - and the full power of the short format.

Fire Drill looks at the effects of the Russian war of aggression on relationships within the crew of a container ship. Belonging and community are also themes in Melodies of Barking Dogs. What does the right performance of masculinity look like? Seventeen-year-old Toni has to position himself within a group of teeangers. Nuestra Sombra, on the other hand, confronts us with the inevitable and unchangeable. In the middle of the Argentinian jungle, where only a few trees remain due to deforestation, the darkness of a solar eclipse leads to a sudden standstill. The protagonist in Tako Tsubo also wishes for a standstill. By removing his heart, he hopes to be relieved of his complicated feelings.

  Mr. Ham decides to have his heart removed in order to be relieved of his complicated feelings. The doctor assures him that this is no longer a problem at all in this day and age. However, Ham keeps his heart for a while after the removal in order to perhaps understand it better after all. An animated, surrealistic reflection on dealing with feelings in a meritocracy.
