Kosmischer Mittwoch: Von tanzenden Galaxien, Dunkler Materie & anderen kosmischen Rätseln

The research field of satellite galaxies - small galaxies orbiting larger ones - has grown rapidly in recent decades. Observations show that these small galaxies exhibit some unexpected properties. These phenomena, in particular a surprisingly ordered cosmic choreography around their parent galaxies such as the Milky Way, pose a challenge to the current standard model of cosmology and dark matter. The lecture will present some of these challenges and explain which possible solutions are currently being discussed by astrophysicists. The lecture by Dr. Marcel Pawlowski is based on his current non-fiction book "Von Tanzenden Galaxien, Dunkler Materie und anderen kosmischen Rätsel". Dr. Pawlowski is a research group leader at the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics (AIP).
