Program:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor K. 466, Symphonies No. 11 in D major K. 84 and No. 38 in D major K. 504 "Prague"
Il Pomo d'Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev have already set standards with their first all-Mozart program at the last Musikfest: According to the Weser-Kurier, "you want to commit every nuance of Emelyanychev's performance to memory - because it's so good" and for klassik.com it was "an extremely impressive concert that is likely to be one of the highlights of the Musikfest". Now the Originalklang ensemble and its director are continuing their journey to Mozart. They remain true to the principle of their ongoing recording of all 41 symphonies, juxtaposing one early and one late symphony. The 11th Symphony was composed by the then 14-year-old in 1770 on his triumphant first trip to Italy, while the 38th Symphony caused a sensation at its premiere in Prague in 1787 with its passionate drama. Since Mozart's success in the Czech metropolis was also due to his piano playing, it is only fitting that Maxim Emelyanychev should once again present himself as an equally excellent pianist. The demanding Piano Concerto No. 20 with its characteristic interactions between soloist and orchestra is certainly a suitable challenge!
