For his debut album KOSMOS SUITE, pianist and composer Lukas DeRungs was nominated for the German Jazz Award and awarded the Baden-Württemberg 2024 State Jazz Prize.
A breathtaking premiere at the EnjoyJazz Festival was followed by a tour of Germany together with the Jazzchor Freiburg and his British-German quintet.
Now, in collaboration with Daniel Deboy (DELTA Soundworks) and visual artist Benjamin Jantzen, he has developed a new performance format for live band and virtual choir, which is played out in 3D sound and completely envelops the audience.
Together with the spoken word samples and the expressive 360° visuals, an immersive overall experience is created,
an explosively contemplative fusion of the emotional density of a polyphonic vocal ensemble and the physical energy of an improvising jazz formation.
Based on English texts by contemporary poets, the KOSMOS SUITE describes the journey through a human life in five movements: SPARK (new beginning) BLAST (explosion) // LIFE (empathy) // VOID (fear) // HOME (homecoming).

It is about questions of why, about death and life, darkness and light, time, being, connectedness, confusion and trust, and about our place as individuals in the greater whole - the cosmos.
