The German band Kreator has long since scaled the (un)holy Olympus of the thrash metal scene. The film KREATOR - HATE AND HOPE tells for the first time the forty-year history of the celebrated metal band, which began in 1982 in the Ruhr area and is now more successful than ever. Let's make some noise - that applies in their homeland and in the outside world. Then as now, they stand up against hatred and the abysses of our society. Shrill tones, virtuoso guitar riffs and energetic drum beats process the turmoil in our civilization with great willpower and creativity. Between Hannah Arendt quotes and headless corpses, a well-orchestrated chaos poetry full of symbols of horror emerges. A musical Molotov cocktail against evil with a cathartic effect. Which is why, contrary to all preconceptions, metalheads are probably the most peaceful people, as Mille Petrozza proves. For her new documentary film, director Cordula Kablitz-Post ("Weil du nur einmal lebst") goes on tour with the legendary thrash metal band from the "Pott" for a year: Wacken Open Air, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangalore, Los Angeles and finally to the "Klash of the Ruhrpott" in Gelsenkirchen, where the German metal greats gather. With private archive recordings and exciting interviews (Scott Ian / Anthrax, Chuck Billy / Testament, Bela B. / Die Ärzte, guitarist Phil Demmel / former Machine Head, Lars Eidinger), they embark on a very honest and humorous journey right into the wildly beating heart of German music history.
