Kumbia Queers

The unmistakable and unforgettable Kumbia Queers from Buenos Aires are back on tour in Europe! Forget everything you think you know about cumbia! The non-binary and lesbian quintet creates a unique dynamic fusion of traditional and modern sounds from the dark, electronic subgenre of Cumbia Villera with driving guitar rock.
The band describes their style as 1000% Tropi Punk - with a wild mix of Afro-Cuban and Latin American cumbia infusions, queerness and punk spirit, the musicians reinterpret Latin American heartbreak and macho posturing, bringing fun and politics together in their own captivating style.
The story goes back to 2007, when the musicians were bored with the punk rock scene and decided to do something completely different: Cumbia. What started as fun eventually led to the formation of Kumbia Queers. As NPR Latno says, "They're not a punchline. They're serious." Some of the Kumbia Queers played together back in the '90s in Buenos Aires in the legendary feminist punk trio "She Devils," whose characteristically grungy style is brought back to life in Kumbia Queer hits like "Mientes" and "Puesta."
Those who experience the band live on stage can look forward to a mixture of tropical punk originals, covers and new tracks from the current album "Fiesteria". Kumbia Queers manage to build an incomparable relationship with their audience at every concert, the concerts are a give and take, a moment of great liberation and joy.
