Serge has bought himself a painting. A very expensive one: white stripes on a white background. This painting sparks an epic argument between long-time friends Marc, Yvan and Serge. Serge thinks the painting is a groundbreaking stroke of genius, Marc thinks it's a brazen bluff and Yvan doesn't know what to say.
The work of art serves as an accelerant for old conflicts and for lives and truths that have long since drifted apart.

In this eloquent and clever comedy, Yasmina Reza, the most frequently performed playwright of our time (including "God of Carnage"), puts the self-image of the three men and their friendship to the test.

The German-language premiere took place in 1995 at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in a production by Felix Prader with Udo Samel, Peter Simonischek and Gerd Warmeling.
