At the time, it was one of the largest construction projects in Germany: Düsseldorf's Wehrhahn line. It went into operation in 2016 and has since completed Düsseldorf's subway network. As a grandiose work of art! Its six subway stations are not only connected by tracks, but also by the visions of six artists.

"Art and magic in a German metro" was the headline in the New York Times on the occasion of the opening of the 3.4-kilometer Wehrhahn line. Laying the tracks underground has not only relieved traffic congestion in the city of Düsseldorf. The art city of Düsseldorf is opening up new terrain underground. On this tour, you will find out just how fascinating it is!

Six subway stations*, six artists - that's the design concept. In collaboration with the city, architects and engineers, the former students of the Düsseldorf Art Academy have succeeded in anchoring art in the everyday lives of over 50,000 passengers every day - with completely different ideas.

Here the subway station becomes a soundscape, there a space station and at the next stop a steel poem awaits you - or is it a riddle after all? Discover yourself as the protagonist and find out how the "continuum" also connects the individual stations aesthetically. Art all along the (Wehrhahn) line!
