Our Art & Cold Drink event always takes place on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 pm and includes artist talks on the exhibition HELDINNEN/SHEROES, but this time we have a very special guest: Curt Delander!
Born in Bonn, Curt Delander is a dazzling figure: at 75, he looks back on a life between art, church and queer emancipation. Inspired by Zarah Leander, travesty became a way for him to express his identity - and a tool against social exclusion. In the 1970s, he founded the travesty group Crazy Boys and was an early advocate for greater visibility and acceptance of homosexual people.
His close relationship with the Frauenmuseum Bonn began when he built a place of worship there from pieces of rubble from the Gertrudis Chapel, which had been destroyed in the war. Today, the Gertrudis Chapel in the inner courtyard of the museum is not only a place of remembrance, but also a space forpastoral discussions, liturgies and queer spirituality. Together with pastoral worker Ingeborg Rathofer, Delander creates inclusive rituals there - with a specially made shawl in rainbow colors.
Delander, who also received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his social commitment, combines queer identity and Catholic faith in a unique way - openly, reconciled and artistically. His story shows how self-determination, spirituality and commitment can become heroism in everyday life.
The entrance fee of €10 (reduced €6) includes a drink - perfect for our courtyard or the roof terrace. Come along in large numbers and bring your friends, we look forward to seeing you!
