What is it all about?

Children take control. Beyond their involvement in exhibition processes, children should decide, shape and be visible as responsible subjects in the museum. What structures and given conditions does such a project encounter in the museum landscape? What challenges do curators and educators face and to what extent can we even speak of clearly demarcated areas?

In conversation with the museum educator and teacher Anja Hild and the volunteer for mediating curating Santi Grunewald, Dr. Henrike Plegge talks about her research and experience within participatory projects in museums and about the interweaving of curating and mediating.

Specific moments from the outreach project for the special exhibition Francis Alÿs - Kids Take Over will also be examined.

Who are our guests?

Dr. Henrike Plegge is a lecturer and art educator who conducts research in the field of critical and artistic education in schools and museums. Her teaching and research focuses on spaces of transformation, artistic action in educational contexts, art education with a critical perspective on discrimination and artistic-educational projects in public spaces. She is an academic advisor at the Institute for Art at Karlsruhe University of Education and co-founder of the art education collective fortda (http://www.fort-da.eu).

Anja Hild has been a teacher at the Museum Ludwig and Wallraf-Richartzmuseum/ Fondation Corboud since 2007 and teaches at a secondary school in Cologne. She develops educational formats with performative approaches based on resonance, interaction, movement and dance.

Santi Grunewald is a trainee and works at the interface of curating and mediation at the Museum Ludwig. Together with Rita Kersting, she curated Francis Alÿs - Kids Take Over and led the outreach project. During and after graduating from the Institute for Art & Art Theory at the University of Cologne, she led workshops at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum and worked in political education.
