The current "Short Stories" exhibition series focuses on selected moments from the life, work and reception of Paula Modersohn-Becker. The presentation of the pictures is complemented by texts and objects that tell exciting short stories about the artist's work. For example, the exhibition also presents the artist's best-known work, the self-portrait on her 6th wedding anniversary with the original amber necklace, and explores individual aspects of the work such as the signature, which was unusual for the artist, or the question of a possible pregnancy...
Few artists have portrayed themselves as frequently and created major works of their oeuvre in this medium as Paula Modersohn-Becker. Frida Kahlo is a well-known exception here: her work also includes numerous self-portraits. Kahlo's self-portraits are accompanied by animals, while in Paula Modersohn-Becker's self-portraits we repeatedly come across attributes such as flowers or fruit.
After a guided tour through the various aspects of the current Short Stories, our art mediator Donata Holz will also discuss Frida Kahlo's famous self-portraits in comparison at this art breakfast. These will be explained in a subsequent presentation and you as participants can enjoy an in-depth exchange over coffee, tea and pastries.
