The Tiergarten district is a myth. In 1928, it was referred to as an "elegant residential area that is framed by fashion and art." After the radical break caused by the National Socialist era, there is hardly anything to remind us of the once magnificent buildings or the art-loving residents. Important artists, art dealers, fashion designers, architects, scientists and collectors gave the district a special flair and turned it into a cultural forum 100 years ago.
Since 2022, a research project of the Art Library has been investigating the forgotten art history of the Tiergarten district. As part of the lecture series, the Kunstbibliothek invites other academics to present their research.
The lectures paint a multifaceted picture of a special district and its art-loving and closely networked neighborhood.
A lecture series curated and moderated by Dr. Gesa Kessemeier and Dr. Joachim Brand.
