Under the motto "A Minor Matter?! Women in Art", we would like to take a closer look at female art positions in the Museum Ludwig collection with you on the evening of April 24. We will be paying particular attention to the role of women in Pop Art and its parallel movements.
When we think of Pop Art, most people probably first think of names like Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns or Robert Rauschenberg. But where are the women? And what about other marginalized groups? At the Museum Ludwig, we find artistic positions such as Marisol Escobar, Yayoi Kusama and Takako Saito represented.
These artists are not only underrepresented in the Pop Art collection as women. They also belong to ethnic minorities in a predominantly white art world. Is this just a "minor matter"? Or to what extent did this marginalization influence their artistic work?
In short guided tours, we will explore together the perspectives of the artists and their significance for pop art and (pop) culture. What mechanisms led to their marginalization? Who made Pop Art - and for whom? And why do we see these works in the Museum Ludwig today?
In addition to exciting insights, you can expect cool drinks from Zappes, a live DJ set in the foyer by @cherry.picking.x3 and a quiz on the subject of Pop Art. Come along and discover new perspectives on art with us!
What is an art späti?
Since October 2015, jungekunstfreunde and job&kunstfreunde have been offering the Kunstspäti, an event format that allows our guests to visit the museums after regular opening hours. Once a quarter, usually on the third Thursday of the month, we alternate between the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum and the Museum Ludwig from 18:00 - 22:00. Our Kunstspätis offer a varied program of short guided tours and hands-on activities, as well as drinks and music in the museum foyer.
Kunstspäti is sponsored by Media Broadcast and VAN HAM Kunstauktionen
We expressly point out that photos will be taken for social media during our events. If you do not wish to be photographed, please contact us directly or raise an objection afterwards via email to: job@kunstfreunde.koeln
