Curator's tour

Requirements in dealing with photographic archives using the example of Karl Blossfeldt
Curator's tour through the exhibition: "Karl Blossfeldt - Photography in the Light of Art" with Claudia Schubert, research associate/curator

The exhibition presents a selection of the extensive Karl Blossfeldt collection held at the Berlin University of the Arts/University Archive. It includes the largest collection of original prints, sculptural works and so-called herbaria, which could not be included in the exhibition for conservation reasons. The archive also includes letters by Karl Blossfeldt from his teaching activities at the UdK's predecessor institution. These very different materials - a circumstance that often occurs in archives - require specific conservation measures and also scientific questions to be addressed.

In relation to Karl Blossfeldt, the tour will address topics such as the state of preservation of the photographs with regard to their creation and use, their reception in the history of photography and finally their relationship to the Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur.
