"short notice": Janna, a German, and Lucy, a French woman, meet at Leipzig Central Station on a Sunday afternoon. They only have one night ahead of them to wander through the city and perhaps get a little closer to each other. Because in the morning, Lucy will be traveling back to Marseille.
Initially tentative and accompanied by cultural banter, their conversations fluctuate between everyday phrases and nervous small talk as Janna guides Lucy through the city. Janna seems reserved, almost stiff, while Lucy tries to break the ice with ease and playful charm. In the flow of the city - through parks and Leipzig's lively streets - the initial strangeness is slowly and noticeably replaced by more and more familiarity. As darkness falls on a climbing frame, they remember their original encounter, their summer flirtation in France - and cautiously approach each other again.
The night brings a little warmth - and tension - between them. At a concert, this tension continues to grow and is finally released in a kiss. The subsequent midnight snack in a hot dog store is now characterized by relaxed lightness and filled with endorphins. But Lucy's impulsive proposal to spontaneously move to Leipzig throws Janna off course. The closeness they have just established begins to falter - insecurities and fears erupt and the mood changes. Janna's subsequent efforts at reconciliation over the following "Wegbier" become the occasion for an honest conversation about experiences with love, about what one takes away from formative relationships - and about what one would rather forget, losses, fears and hopes. Shared vulnerability brings depth - and trust.
With the (re)gained familiarity, the morning dawns and Leipzig's last stop - the Sachsenbrücke - becomes the setting for the realization of the past hours, which now seem almost unreal. There is a tension between the two, a shared memory that intervenes between the sentences. At the crowded main station, the farewell must be successful, with the possible prospect of a reunion in the air. The controlled farewell is then replaced by a forgotten cell phone and a frantic sprint to the platform - and results in another kiss, led by everything that was left unsaid. Janna stays behind - with a grin on her face as Lucy's train slowly pulls out of Leipzig.
Leipzig becomes the third main character in this one night: a city between bustling streets, nocturnal emptiness and hidden locations, between distance, closeness, reunion and departure - a mirror of the growing intimacy between Janna and Lucy. It was not the first time they said goodbye. And perhaps not the last... (Gendry, DE FR 2024 - 36min)
"Cabin": Fritz is one of the most talented youth footballers at his famous local club. Anyone who plays their way into the limelight here is sure to end up on the lists of numerous Bundesliga scouts - including Fritz. But there is no real joy. The homophobia and constant sexism in the soccer cosmos have been getting to him for a long time. And while the air in the dressing room becomes increasingly stuffy with testosterone, Fritz is ready to give up everything just before reaching his goal.... (Mertins, DE 2025 - 20min)
