Kurzfilmprogramm THE PAST IS NOT ANOTHER COUNTRY

In the organizer's words:

Since the late 1960s at the latest, numerous people have come to the Federal Republic of Germany from Turkey for political reasons - some of them to the GDR. Among them were students, artists and politically persecuted people. This part of Turkish-German migration history is still little known and barely documented. The third chapter of the series THE PAST IS NOT ANOTHER COUNTRY is dedicated to political exile from Turkey and brings together three historical filmic positions that contribute to filling gaps in the archive: ALAMANYA is a photo film that combines photographs of Turkish migrant workers with a song by exiled musician Cem Karaca. ICH WILL KEINE LIEDER MEHR HÖREN, SINGEN WILL ICH portrays Turkish artists such as the composer Tahsin Incirci and the painter Hanefi Yeter, who live and work in Berlin. ULKOMAALAINEN / YABANCI tells the story of a Turkish migrant worker in Helsinki and sets itself apart from classic immigration narratives: The protagonist's past is not the idealized "old homeland", but a politically influenced background that continues to have an impact in the distance.
