Take 27 grams of gelatine and stir it into 600 grams of water, then add 300 grams of moistened chalk and finally linseed oil varnish: this is how Paula Modersohn-Becker noted the recipe for priming her canvases in her cookbook - alongside the instructions for sweet and savory dishes of all kinds.
In this short evening tour, together with curator Dr. Henrike Hans, we will get to the bottom of the secrets of this and other recipes with which the artist prepared her boards, canvases and papers and take a look at the different effects she achieved with them in her paintings.
