Performance program at the Hamburger Kunsthalle with two international works at the interface of performance art and visual arts.
La Ribot - LaBOLA(2022)
In LaBOLA, the La Ribot Ensemble creates a living sphere that is constantly in motion. Three performers dance, whirl and transform themselves incessantly, collecting objects, costumes and personalities along the way, exchanging identities and crossing borders. Spanish-Swiss choreographer La Ribot, winner of the Golden Lion at the 2020 Venice Biennale, describes her piece as a vision of a community that is constantly dancing and transforming - an endless interplay of bodies, stories, clothing and life that unites everyone in its wake. The result is an energetic choreography of exchange in which the stage becomes a place of infinite transformation and thus also refers to the second work by Volmir Cordeiro, which can be seen afterwards. The performance in front of the Kunsthalle's Old Masters and 19th century paintings follows on from LaRibot's radical combination of dance, performance, film and visual art: since her beginnings in the 1980s, she has become one of the best-known crossover artists between art and performance with appearances in theaters and exhibition venues such as Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou and Reina Sofía.
Volmir Cordeiro - Outrar (2021)
"Outrar", a neologism by the poet Fernando Pessoa, means "to become another". Brazilian dance icon Lia Rodrigues sent this poetic invitation to her dancers - and Volmir Cordeiro - in the middle of the global lockdown in 2021. His response: a passionate solo that builds bridges and connects continents, from Brazil to Europe and back again. Between intense gestures and colorful masks, the desire for change unfolds here, the celebration of the other within ourselves. Outrar celebrates what connects us: a dance as a rousing celebration of transformation - and thus also a congenial counterpart to the work of La Ribot, which is shown before it. Volmir Cordeiro is the founder of Compagnie Donna Volcan (2018), lives in France, explores the margins of society through dance and was awarded the SACD Prize for Young Choreography in 2021.

Three performers dance, spin, and continuously transform - gathering objects, costumes, and personas, swapping identities, and breaking boundaries along the way. Spanish-Swiss choreographer La Ribot, awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale 2020, envisions a community that constantly dances and evolves - an endless interplay of bodies, stories, garments, and lives, uniting all within its flow. The result is an energetic choreography of exchange, where the stage becomes a space of infinite transformation.
Set against the Old Masters and 19th Century paintings at Kunsthalle, LaBOLA extends La Ribot's radical fusion of dance, performance, film, and visual art. Since the 1980s, La Ribot has been a pioneering force, appearing in venues like Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, and Reina Sofia - renowned for her boundary-crossing artistry that blends performance and visual expression.
Volmir Cordeiro - Outrar (2021)

Outrar celebrates what unites us-a dance as a rousing festival of transformation, and thus also a congenial counterpart to the work of La Ribot.
Volmir Cordeiro, founder of Compagnie Donna Volcan (2018), lives in France, where he explores societal margins through dance. In 2021, he received the SACD Prize for Young Choreography.
